About Next Piece
Meet Shep Scott
A man who has been where you are, and has spent the years since helping other men find their way back.
The story
Lived it, then learned to lead through it
Shep Scott was born and raised in Salt Lake City, the oldest of three brothers. He grew up on the ice and the lacrosse field, with a bass guitar never far from reach and a deep love of music.
Like a lot of men, he also carried a private battle. Through his twenties, substance abuse cost him, with legal, professional, and academic consequences piling up before he found his footing. In his late twenties, he found a life in recovery, and the rebuilding started from there.
For more than five years now, Shep has worked alongside men in early recovery, helping them structure a plan, stay accountable, and build the confidence, integrity, and resilience that lasting recovery takes. He has been where you are. That is the whole point.
Our mission
Why we do this
Recovery is rarely a straight line. It is a series of next steps, some steady, some hard-won. We are here for all of them, as a consistent presence that does not waver when things get difficult. Our work is non-clinical: we do not provide therapy or medical care. What we offer is structure, mentoring, and a man in your corner who treats you with respect.
What we stand for
The values that guide the work
Confidence
Rebuild belief in yourself through small wins that add up.
Integrity
Honest accountability, with a man in your corner.
Resilience
Tools and support to keep going when it gets hard.
Purpose
Reconnect with a direction worth staying for.
The name
Why "Next Piece"
Recovery can feel like a puzzle that came apart. The work is not to fix everything at once. It is to find the next piece, set it in place, and then the one after that.
That is what we help you do. One honest step, one steady week, one next piece at a time, until the picture of your life starts to come back together.
